Mantras to Keep Yourself Positive and Focused
The stress level in our life these days is tremendous and it is very important to keep yourself positive and focused. I have dealt with some tough times in the recent past. I have successfully managed to put my life on track again, keeping myself Positive and Self-Motivated. I would like to share some suggestions around it, that could help you or someone in need. These are the methods that I have tested and the results were fruitful. I can’t guarantee you peace of mind if you follow these methods but it helped me and thus can help another person in need.

Keep Interacting more with positive people
It may not be possible to follow in your office environment but talk more with people whom you can trust and feel positive. Try to create a positive environment, share harmless stupid jokes and laugh with your neighbor next desk in the office. All colleagues may not be so welcoming and some have other intentions. Try to spot the honest ones and just talk to them on a lighter note. It helps in building a good positive work network.

Music helps in relieving stress
Music can be your all-time best Friend. I always listened to some favorite songs at the end of my work hours or while coming back home. I try not to engage myself in calls for some time, I just listened to songs. It helped me in clearing my mind.
If you are very angry somehow, go out of your office building, listen to your favorite song, have a tea or coffee, and come back with a smile. You will be in a better midset post this.

Holidays are must!
All of us work hard, some even till late at night. Please stop overworking and take care of your health. Take a day off, on a Friday occasionally or on Monday. Go for a solo trip or plan activities with friends. When I switched to a new job a few years back, for 6 months, I was in a new city. I didn’t have many friends in the new city but I did explore, went out for trips whenever it was possible.
Occassional breaks help to get more positive thoughts and more fresh OXYGEN also (Good breathable air is scarce these days, specially in metro cities)

Never miss an important family function or best friend’s wedding
Work is never going to be enough. Work will keep coming. It is important to be in touch with family & friends. They will not judge you for what you are doing now and may put up a smile on your face with some of your stupid mistakes in the past.

Find time to sleep, your future self demands it desperately!
I know, you may have been struggling at work, pushing those long hours for a better appraisal. I did that too. In the process, we have compromised on sleeping. There was a time when I was barely sleeping for 6-7 hours and then starting work early. Believe me, having enough sleep is important. It is recommended to have 8.5 hours per day of sleep at a stretch. It is most important to the person after 10 years, that’s the older you.
Do you really want to suffer from multiple health issues in your 40s when it could have been avoided by sleeping adequately in your 30s?
Do a favor to your future self and prioritize your health. If your company doesn’t care for your work-life balance, then it’s high time to find a new job. You may find more time to sleep too.

The pandemic noise and how to save yourself from it
Since the pandemic, many people are working from home. Zoom window became the only window to know our colleagues. Too many online meetings and stretched work-from-home hours, are causing some health issues. You must keep track of your seating time, keep moving in the house, count your steps. Daily 10,000 steps is a good measure of health.
Check your home work-station lighting condition. I had to keep my room’s tube light on even during the day and blocked sunlight to stop glare. Otherwise, it was putting a lot of stress on my eyes. Also, do not broadcast your drawing room or any personal space. Use Zoom’s virtual background. People do remember all sorts of things that they see.

Digital de-toxing is good for your health
Remember you have only one pair of eyes and one lifetime to achieve your goals. These days thanks to mobiles, our screen watching time has increased multi-fold. It causes problems like dry eyes, migraine, increase in eye power among others. some mobiles do show your screen time, try to control it.
Also, it is important to have some time away from your mobile/ tablets. Specially when you are prepared to go to your bed, put all electronic devices on ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode. It will silent notification and calls. Don’t worry, in case of emergency, calls from saved numbers do ring the second time, just check the settings. I have used iphone’s DND option for a long time and currently using DND with bedtime setting on my Android mobile. It helps me sleep better and reduces my screen time too.

Plan your financial goals
For peace of mind, one must have adequate financial resources to sustain. Try to map your expenses and saving. Plan your target saving, keep some for emergencies permanently and keep some for short-term goals like electronic gadgets or vacation. I maintain an excel that I update fortnightly to track expenses and plan my savings. I have had a bad habit of overspending. Now I am able to control it and save for my goals.
Remember, no loan is good. Credit card due is your biggest enemy. If you are unable to save more, try to stop using credit-card and only use debit-card. This trick helped me to only expense money, what I actually have, post accounting for saving. I personally use ELSS tax-saving SIP and recurring deposits to achieve my goals.
Keep your persoanl life separate from professional life
Believe me, people who think of harming you or adding negativity to your life, always look for ways to get to know more about your personal life.
How many times did you think that an office senior is like your brother or friend, but at the time of your exit from the company, that same person acts more like a stranger?
Do your colleagues ever discuss your online activities, too often in the office, that you posted online? Do you get uncomfortable with that? Some people are introverts and they like to keep things in a close circle, if you are one of those, please read the below suggestions.

Your peace of mind is more important that satisfying your colleagues/boss with your online activities. Your boss and colleagues may wish to connect with you on Facebook or Instagram. They may be good people, but first, get to know the person before accepting them in your social life.
Do not accept friend request from anyone (even from your Boss), if you are slightly uncomfortable in sharing your life with him/her. Tell them some excuse if required. I would suggest to make your profile ‘Private’ when you are under stress.
Specially while switching to a new job, it is a common tendency to search about new joiners. Be careful to keep your online activity private to reduce risking any pre-conceived bad notion about you by your colleagues. You must establish yourself in the new job, gaining the confidence of your boss and colleagues for the next 3-4 months before making them a part of your social life. Beware of friends of any negative people who could leak information in the office for their own advantage, about your personal life.
Positive people are rare these days. Keep them close and save them from extinction
